This weekend I zipped out a pair of fingerless gloves for the Peaceful Palms knitalong. Unlike the rest of me, my hands are tiny (my father, who had little hands too, used to say that it meant we were descended from royalty...right), so gloves for me are pretty fast. I used some handwash-only sock yarn that I got from Need More Yarn to make them. I love the colors and the way her handpainted yarn stripes, but in my house, socks get machine washed. I just can’t get my act together to separate the hand-wash-only socks before they go into the washing machine, so I made several pairs of cute little felted elf booties before I gave up. Fortunately, gloves don’t get as dirty as socks or have to be washed as often, so I can manage to keep them un-felted for longer. I hope.
Now I have a pair of fingerless gloves to finish for daughter Katie…one is almost done, I just need to make the thumb, and then make the second one. And then I’ve promised a pair of real gloves (i.e., with complete fingers) out of Mountain Colors Bearfoot to James. No rush one those, though, since he told me this morning that he would wear them in “deep winter.” I expect that will be some time around January in South Carolina, so I have plenty of time. After reading Grumperina this morning on the subject of Bearfoot, I’m having some reservations about it. I’ve used it a couple of times before, and I don’t remember it being particularly splitty, like she says hers is. Then again, she’s allergic to mohair, which would be a problem.
In the spirit of Katie’s Sock Scrap Swap, my friend Kathy went through her sock stash and sent me some of her scraps. She also put in 2 ½ skeins of Noro Kureyon in maroon, and I’ve started some Fuzzy Feet out of that. Pictures of the goodies and the beginning of the giant but not-yet-fuzzy foot will be taken tonight, because I didn’t have the sense to take any this weekend.
And finally, I did finish the second pair of Socktoberfest socks this weekend. One less thing hanging over me to complete!! OK, OK, OK – technically there are still the toe decreases to do, but that will be dealt with at lunch today. I was planning to finish them up and have empty needles for starting on new, fresh-from-Germany yarn brought by my buddy at work, but he isn’t due back for another week. Sigh. Oh well, more time to get other things wrapped up if I’m a good girl (or to start some more if I’m not). Three guesses.
Pictures of the completed (finally!) sock and whatever I start next will be taken tonight.
Those are purdy! Can't wait to see what comes from Germany!
One question: what kind og bind-off are you using (due to fingerless
gloves)?
