What’s the opposite of startitis?

posted Friday, 28 October 2005

Would that be finishitis?  And why can’t I ever get a case of THAT?  Here I sit with 1.6 socks, and all I need is to finish the foot and toe of the second one so that I can move on to other things, but do I?  No, I get out different yarns and play with them, move things from one side of the stash to another, wind skeins into balls (I love my nostepinne!) and generally mess around all evening.  I knit a total of 3 rows last night on the second sock of the second Socktoberfest pair, the Lorna’s in Tuscany.  I think I’m just going to put it down (right beside the bag that has 1.7 pink striped socks) and start something else this weekend, then when it gets tedious maybe one of those socks will look like a good candidate for completion.  After all, knitting is my hobby, not my job, and it’s supposed to be enjoyable.  I work under deadlines at work every day; there is always someone wanting to know if I’m done with his translation yet*. Maybe that’s why I rebel against them so much in the rest of my life.

So tonight I’m going to go home and cast on for something else.  Like some gloves for me out of Mountain Colors Bearfoot, or dig out my green cardigan that I started back when it was too hot to work on, and figure out where I was.  I could use that sweater right about now!  Then again, I have a Secret Christmas Project that I need to work on, too.  I wasn’t going to knit things for Christmas, and this is probably the only one that I will make.  I thought (very fleetingly) about making handknit socks for my sister and her family, but they live in Florida, and might wear them one day a year.  Nah.

*The answer is usually, “No, and get off my back if you ever want to see it”

I vote for gloves out of Bearfoot. You'll be back to the socks in no time, LOLOL!
